Too much exercise is rampant in this area…and the people telling everyone to do it, don’t really have the knowledge or experience working with the deconditioned population to give out any fitness advice. They are merely selling athletic or skilled training. These studies aren’t anything new. People have gotten away from the basics and they want a quick fix and since nobody regulates fitness trainers these people can just put any title to their name and claim they are the next guru of fitness and sell them what they want regardless if it’s the best thing for them. They don’t even check heart rates on their clients to make sure they aren’t overtraining, are damaging their hearts, or even staying in their fat-burning zone. There is a complete and total disregard for form or range of motion and people are getting injured from their exercise program at an alarming rate. What’s worse is that most of these are pushing weight loss products that I wouldn’t give to my worst enemy, almost as much as they are pushing their new high-calorie burning programs. The reality is that your body should only try to burn at best, 500 more calories than it needs in a day. If you burn more and eat less you are burning more muscle than fat, destroying your BMR and your natural ability to get lean without having to exercise at all. In other words…these new programs are meant for athletes to improve their athletic performance and if you aren’t interested in becoming an athlete you should never introduce your body to these programs. Our obesity epidemic is worse now than it was 20 years ago when we only had about 5 gyms in the Wilmington area and virtually no personal training studios. We now have over 140! Can anyone see a correlation in this? We are only supposed to exercise some and eat more nutritious calories, not eat less and exercise more. Stay healthy my friends…
